Christmas: a poem

T’was a night in December, a night to remember,

A census the King had declared.

“to the place you were born!” so from their homes they were torn,

the wrath of the king, to be spared.

-

“No room at the inn!” People crowded the streets

seeking a place to stay.

But gone almost un-seen, for it was “far too unclean”

Was a stable that smelled of old hay.

-

Under a star shining brighter, a husband held tighter,

The hand of his wife in pain.

The time was come, God had a son,

Emmanuel – God with us named.

-

To Him was giv’n the one key to heav’n

The Prophecy to fulfill

in mercy and love, God sent from above

His Son to do of His will.

-

Fully human and fully God,

the Son of Man – without sin.

His work rejected, His words dis-respected

By even the most pious of men.

-

T’was a night in December, a night to remember,

The voices of angels were heard.

The shepherds informed, by the angels were warned

Of Christ the Savior’s birth.

-

Have a blessed Christmas!! :)

Sooo… where are the men??

Like it or not, America has reached the peak of its decline.  As a result, 50% of all marriages in the United States will end in divorce, according to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. A country that was founded upon Biblical, and moral principles, will no longer allow their public schooled students to pray. 1,760 children died from abuse during the year 2007.

What has been happening over the years, to bring us to the point of moral decline?? Where are the men, in this nation?

I would like to share with  you a story. Just a warning, and a disclaimer, before I begin. This story is graphic, and is probably one of the sickest, and most heart-wrenching stories you’ll ever hear. When I heard it, I could not believe my ears, so I felt I needed to research for myself.

Outside of a Richmond High School, October 24th, 2009. A 15 year old girl was physically assaulted, and abused by 10 other students. This is not the sickest part- at least 10 others were seen with camera phones, video-taping the event. None of them even considering lending a hand.

Only after 1 and a half hours of abuse, did a “friend” of the girl call 9-1-1. Emergency vehicles arrived only just in time to save the girl’s life.

There was not a single man on the entire high school campus. This sickening display of the depths of our society’s moral decay is only the very tip of the iceberg.

Self-gratification is literally tearing this nation apart, from the inside out.

What is a Biblical Man?

A biblical man stands for Christ. No matter what happens, he is not ashamed, nor is he hesitant to take a stand- through the power of Christ in Him.

A Biblical man’s one and only goal is to glorify and please God, in whatever he does.

He is the provider of the family, and is the head of the household.

How many two headed horses have you seen? How many cars have 2 steering wheels? How many Kingdoms-or countries have two Kings- or presidents.

God gave man the responsibility to be the head. Not because they are better in any way- we are all created in the image of God- but, because God gave men and women SEPERATE and DIFFERENT roles.

You can not have a strong union made up of people with different goals. Without men to stand against abuse, and fight for what is right- without a return to the basic principles of life given to us by our Creator God, we can have no hope for recovery.

Hello everyone! I am posting my 1st Affirmative Constructive case I wrote for the National Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) Team Policy debate on my blog for each of you to critic. Please, I would ask that if you find anything at all that you are curious about, or maybe an inconsitancy, or even just questions about what any of this means, please comment! Thank you guys very much! :D

These days, citizens of the United States have begun to think of the Federal Government as some type of Superman. Here to solve the world’s problems, and “save the day”. Upon this false premise, the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards were imposed on car manufacturers. This legislation imposes more rules on an already struggling car industry by demanding that all cars manufactured in the US are created with a specific miles per gallon rating. The goal behind this law was to “save the world” from climate change, and reduce our dependency on foreign oil. But at what cost? The freedom of the manufacturers.

Because of the false premise adopted by the Federal Government, and because of the over-whelming failures of the CAFE standards to accomplish its goals, my partner and I stand resolved: That the United States Federal Government should significantly reform its environmental policy.

In order to promote clarity in today’s round we offer

Observation 1: Definitions. (sources available upon request)

Significant: “Important; of consequence” (dictionary.com/significant)

Reform: “The improvement or amendment of what is wrong, corrupt, unsatisfactory, etc.” (dictionary.com/reform)

Environmental Policy: “is any (course of) action deliberately taken (or not taken) to manage human activities with a view to prevent, reduce or mitigate harmful effects on nature and natural resource” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_policy)

Definition of CAFE (only if necessary)

CAFE website

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/cafe/overview.htm

Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) is the sales weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon (mpg), of a manufacturer’s fleet of passenger cars or light trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 lbs. or less, manufactured for sale in the United States, for any given model year. Fuel economy is defined as the average mileage traveled by an automobile per gallon of gasoline (or equivalent amount of other fuel) consumed as measured in accordance with the testing and evaluation protocol set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Observation II : Goal

With the definitions clarified, the affirmative will present a Goal for the round. Or, what this round is going to be focusing on, we would ask the judge to base (His or Her) decision on this at the end of the round.

We, as the affirmative team, present the goal of: Proper Role Of Government

The role of government being purely to protect the rights and freedoms of its citizens, the Affirmative team is confident that the US Government has twisted its purpose into something that it is not. This twist of purpose, as we will show during this speech, inevitably leads to dangerous consequences to the peoples rights to life, liberty, and property.

That said, we would ask you the judge to vote for whichever team, affirmative, or negative that best presents the US Government with the proper goals.

Observation III : Inherency, or the way things are..

1. Regulations

President Barack Obama recently enacted stricter CAFE standards, Referencing these new laws, The wall street journal reported-

Wall Street Journal, May 20th, 2009.
Henry J. Pulizzi

“President Barack Obama said new government rules designed to boost fuel efficiency and slash greenhouse-gas emissions will give auto makers “clear certainty” at a time when their business is enduring a “historic crisis.”

-The rules would require new passenger cars sold in the U.S. to meet an average mileage requirement of 39 miles per gallon by 2016.

That’s a dramatic rise from current averages–27.5 mpg for cars, 23 mpg for trucks–and would bring the overall average of cars and light trucks to 35.5 mpg by 2016, four years earlier than current federal law requires.”

These new standards seize the manufacturers rights to liberty, and property as the government makes the decisions on exactly how the companies make cars.

2. CAFE ineffective.

National Center for Policy Analysis, Nov 27, 2006

http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/index.php?Article_ID=13892

“Washington spends more than $3 billion a year on renewable and alternative energy programs, clean coal technology, energy research and the like, according to the Government Accountability Office. Yet all these Big Government efforts have failed to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, says Investor’s Business Daily (IBD).

In fact, the opposite has occurred. In 1970, imports accounted for about 20 percent of the country’s oil supply; today, they account for 60 percent. To understand why, take a look a few specifics.

Fuel economy:

The federal government has since 1975 required automakers to meet corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards; as a result, cars on the road today are 52 percent more fuel efficient than they were 30 years ago.
But that hasn’t cut gasoline consumption; average per-person spending on gasoline is up 4 percent since 1975 after adjusting for inflation, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis; one key reason is that people are driving more, offsetting the gains in efficiency.”

Observation IV : Harms, or problems brought about by the way things are…

1. Added Cost

The new CAFE standards make vehicles more expensive. The Associated Press reports May 20, 2009-

http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/automotive/ny-bc-us–obama-autos-glanc0519may19,0,6427266.story

-”President Barack Obama is asking consumers to put their money — up to $1,300 per new vehicle by 2016 — behind his plan for higher efficiency standards for cars and trucks and tougher rules on their greenhouse gas emissions.

In return, Obama said Tuesday in unveiling the plan, drivers would make up the higher cost of more fuel-efficient, cleaner vehicles by buying less gas at the pump. It would take just three years to pay off the investment and would, over the life of a vehicle, save about $2,800 through better gas mileage, the president said.”

2. Death

Charlie E. Coon July, 2001 (Charlie E. Coon is Senior Policy Analyst for Energy and the Environment in the Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies at The Heritage Foundation.)

http://www.heritage.org/Research/EnergyandEnvironment/BG1458.cfm

“Not only has the CAFE program failed to meet its goals; it has had tragic even if unintended consequences. As vehicles were being made lighter to achieve more miles per gallon and meet the standards, the number of fatalities from crashes rose.

The evidence is overwhelming that CAFE standards result in more highway deaths. A 1999 USA TODAY analysis of crash data and estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that, in the years since CAFE standards were mandated under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975, about 46,000 people have died in crashes that they would have survived if they had been traveling in bigger, heavier cars. This translates into 7,700 deaths for every mile per gallon gained by the standards.

A 2000 study by Leonard Evans, now the president of the Science Serving Society in Michigan, found that adding a passenger to one of two identical cars involved in a two-car frontal crash reduces the driver fatality risk by 7.5 percent. If the cars differ in mass by more than a passenger’s weight, adding a passenger to the lighter car will reduce total risk.

The Evans findings reinforce a 1989 study by economists Robert Crandall of the Brookings Institution and John Graham of the Harvard School of Public Health, who found that the weight of the average American automobile has been reduced 23 percent since 1974, much of this reduction a result of CAFE regulations.”

Seeing the consequences of such perversion of the purpose of government, The Affirmative team proposes a

Observation V : PLAN

Agency: Both houses of congress, and any other necessary federal agencies.

To be passed immediately upon an affirmative ballot.

Mandate

1. Corporate Average Fuel Economy emission standards will be repealed, and the money saved from the abolition of this program will be returned to taxpayers.

Funding: This plan is purely legislative, and will cost you nothing.

Observation VI : Advantages, how our plan impacts you, the judge, and solves for the harms we presented in our case.

With the abolition of these standards, the disadvantages are no longer existent thus, they have been solved for.

1. No cost. As presented early in this speech, the CAFE standards make cars more expensive, which depresses our already un-stable economy. With the abolition, we will be saving up to 1300 dollars per vehicle.

2. Less deaths. Also discussed earlier in this speech, the CAFE standards make cars more dangerous, and have increased the death rate per car crash, when these standards are repealed, car manufacturers will be free to create larger, heavier, and safer cars.

3. proper role of government.
Remembering our goal of proper role of government, we ask you to decide if the current administration is fulfilling it’s real responsibilities or not, we believe that CATO says it best-

“Congress has no business dictating automotive fuel efficiency. That’s a job for consumers, not vote-hustling politicians. There are no problems for CAFE standards to solve. Hence, they shouldn’t be tightened; they should be repealed.”

Something to say!

Dear readers,

My deepest regrets and apologies for my constant epic failures as a writer, and the utter neglect of my blogging responsibilities over the last few months. Life is crazy right now. (no excuse, I know) ;)

However, as I have a few moments to spare at this time, (yay!) and I am feeling somewhat inspired, I feel I should shall share something with ya’ll.

Some of you may be aware, or have heard somewhat of my “exploits” with my co-workers. Namely: the sharing of my Faith.

Faith
Faith

I feel an update is in order, as it has been a good 2 months since this all began with a simple question from a co-worker: “Do you believe in God?”

It has been eye-opening– a TRUE spiritual WAR! Some nights I find myself entering the car after work- shaking all over- teeth chattering- knees knocking together- all the result of an adrenaline rush from a recent spiritual discussion.

I have been sharing my faith there for the last 2 months, and have yet to see a convert. But is that the reason I share my Faith? Purely in order to convert people?

During a more recent conversation, one of my co-workers (whom I shall call Calvin)  asked me, in the middle of our discussion “why is this so important to you? what are you getting out of this? Why do you take the time to answer my questions?” It really got me to thinking… WHY do I share my Faith?

Jesus commands us to ” Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15 -KJV)

Matthew 10:32 says “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.” Do you think sharing our Faith is important to God? I can find numerous more verses commanding us to witness of the Gospel.

But aside from the COMMAND of Christ, to share the Good News… another reason to share The Truth comes to mind.

A few months ago, when I was first starting this job, I had asked myself the same question over and over again. I knew the Bible verses by heart, an I knew what I had to do! But I was simply TOO scared! And when I asked God to help me understand, and over-come my fears, God brought a picture to my mind.

It was of my friends. All my un-saved friends that I had never shared my Faith with, being condemned before God on the Day of Judgement. I’m standing with my hands by my sides helpless, only watching them, the people I knew being led to a place of everlasting torment. This picture is ingrained in my mind and is brought to remembrance any time I am afraid to Testify.

I realized my PRIDE! How DARE I with-hold the news of free everlasting life from people, merely for fear of what they MIGHT THINK of me??

How proud am I?

God calls us to Love our neighbors as ourselves. How then, can we watch our friends and neighbors live lives of Godlessness, bound for eternal torment and not be moved. We indeed have The Answer to eternal life! How can it be silenced?

Imagine yourself walking through the desert. A friend is walking with you, but, oddly enough, is walking backwards! He does not notice that he is a mere 10 feet from a cliff about to walk off and plummet 1000 feet to his death on the sharp desert rocks below. Would you not SCREAM “Turn around! You’re walking off a cliff!”? Would you be silent, afraid to be chided for your “lack of tolerance.” or scolded for your “harsh judgments” and “inability to have fun”?

Like I said, I have yet to lead a co-worker to Christ. But I feel it is my duty, as a loving neighbor, and a child of God, to make known the Truth. To Testify of God’s power to make the weak strong, save from the eternal punishment of Sin that is due us, and turn our lives toward Him with the reward of everlasting life and limit-less reward.

If my testimony never leads a single sinner to Christ, that is not my business. I can only do what I can, and no more. I cannot force anyone to listen, but the Duty, and the Call to Share is mine. What happens after that is God’s.

"Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel..." Ephesians 6:18-19

Calvin has recently asked me for a Bible, and some tracts, as has one other co-worker named Matt. Please pray for both of these, as they consider their eternal destiny! Pray that I will remain Faith-ful, and that some-how, through my weaknesses, Christ will be glorified, and His strength will be shown!

Grace and Peace to you all!

Sept. 11 : Illusions…

8 years ago today, our country was shaken to its knees.

The Twin Towers
The Twin Towers

2,603 people died that day, in the towers, and on the ground around it-because of a few terrorists bent on the killing Americans. And nothing more.

Why so shocked? This happens all the time in other countries!

A good question. The answer: illusion.

You see, people (and especially Americans) tend to put their trust in government to keep them safe. We go about our business as usual, and will generally not even think twice about the WORLD outside of our cars, jobs, churches, and friends. Not realizing the dangers of the world we live in, of the fact that there are desperate suicide bombers intent on the demise of freedom, and the spread of Islam.

We live in our protective shells, and look at clippings of genocide in 3rd world countries thinking “that could never happen here!”

I remember watching the attack as it was happening. I thought “this is not possible!!” … “I must still be dreaming!”

I distinctly remember, as they showed photos of ground zero, how much this looked like those bombings in Europe, and India that had flashed on the news so often.

All our illusions, reduced to rubble...

All our illusions, reduced to rubble...

But this… this WAS AMERICA!! My HOME! My countryman!! I remember a feeling of rage sweeping over me, at the attackers… Then something else hit me.

As we were watching, and the towers were beginning to crumble… I saw, as it was happening, something that I shall never forget. As long as I live.

I saw people, regular people, like ME… Jumping to their deaths to avoid the hot flames. These people, over 2,000 of them, were still in their suits. They were conducting business as usual, an average day!

WTC_Demolition

Ecclesiastes 8:8 says it pretty nicely “No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death. [There is] no release from that war, And wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it.”

All of our “securities”, our false illusions that made us feel safe, were peeled away on that fateful day. We realized that we cannot possibly acheive complete safety on our own. We continue to try, but as the above Bible verse states, “no one has power in the day of death.”

Our time will come. And just like those people who were having an ordinary day, where sipping coffee one second, and deciding to jump out window for their lives all in the space of about 30 minutes, death will come, whether you are ready or not. Whether you expect it or not. No matter your illusions:

“It is appointed unto man once to die, after this, the judgement.”

- Hebrews 9:7

So, the question is, are you ready?

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

-Luke 21:34-36 (NKJV)

Grace and peace, and God bless the United States, and the families of those whoes lives were lost on September 11, 2001.

What do you think? : Environment

Hello all you WONDERFUL readers!! :D

Stayin' Cool. ;)
Stayin’ Cool. ;)

Soo, in light of the new Team Policy resolution for the National Christian Forensics and Communication Association, I suddenly feel extremely curious about what you guys ACTUALLY BELIEVE about environmentalism. Is the environment in need of more special attention from the government? in what ways? Is the earth in trouble? Is global Warming man-made? Go wild guys, any environmental issues… state your opinion, let your voice be heard! (or… words.. be.. rea- you know what I mean!) ;) I’m genuinely curious. :D Have fun! :D

My Sister… Change

For those of you who don’t know me very well…

I LOVE my family. A. LOT.

My Family
My Family

Everyone experiences change.  Some like change,  and some do not. For me, there’s a good, and bad type of change.

I like the changing of the seasons, from warm to cool…cool to cold…green to brown…to white…

I like change when day turns to night…the sky pink as the sun’s rays make their final attempts to illuminate the earth’s surface, as darkness takes its place.

I like change when night turns to day, as the darkness flees, and hides its face from the sun’s powerful light, that beats on the morning’s dew.

Morning_dew_by_Timosetae

But some change, I don’t like so much… at all. Though change is a fact of life, and accepting the change is a matter of Faith, God allows us all time for sorrow.

Ecclesiastes 3:4 “A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance…”

In fact, there are times we are called to mourn, and weep.

Matthew 5:4 “Blessed [are] they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”

As I stated before, I love my family.

My sister, Charity, left for college last night. She’ll be going to a college 8 hours away from here. I don’t know how long it will be before I see her again, but I know, that my love for her will never be lessened by distance. I will miss her, maybe more then she’ll ever know. She’s been such a blessing to me, always loving, always considerate… life will not be the same without her.

My beautiful sister, Charity

Kansas

Kansas State Bird - Meadowlark

Kansas State Bird - Meadowlark

Well, we are officially “moved in” to our new house in Derby, Kansas. Derby is a decent-sized town about the size of Georgetown located 5 miles from Wichita. The scenery here is much like that of central texas – FLAT. Except in Kansas, you will NEVER see brown grass. EVERYTHING is green. The neighborhood here is nice, and the people seem friendly. We are actually pretty excited about starting to visit churches around here! :)

The trip from Texas to Kansas is quite epic. Interstate  35 runs from the middle of Austin STRAIGHT through Wichita! The scenery is quite nice around central Oklahoma… sandy, rocky, very hilly… So like, anyone from Texas wanting to come visit us – *ahem cough cough* just know, the trip is really nice. Oh, and it takes only about 8 hours! :D

And now I am proud to present:

 Random Facts about Kansas!

Random Fact 1: At Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine waterbeds for horses are used in surgery.

2.   Kansas won the award for most beautiful license plate for the wheat plate design issued in 1981.

3.   Dodge City is the windiest city in the United States.

4.    At one time it was against the law to serve ice cream on cherry pie in Kansas.

5.   Fort Riley, between Junction City and Manhattan, was the cradle of the United States Cavalry for 83 years. George Custer formed the famed 7th Cavalry there in 1866. Ten years later, at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, the 7th was virtually wiped out. The only Cavalry survivor was a horse named Comanche.

6.  There are 27 Walnut Creeks in the state.

7.  Fire Station No. 4 in Lawrence, originally a stone barn constructed in 1858, was a station site on the Underground Railroad.

8.   In Italy the city of Milan is 300 miles northwest of Rome. In Kansas, Milan is less than 25 miles northwest of Rome, in Sumner County.

9.   Kansas produced a record 492.2 million bushels of wheat in 1997, enough to make 35.9 billion loaves of bread.

10.   The world famous fast-food chain of Pizza Hut restaurants opened its first store in Wichita.

And there you have it!!! :D

Farewell… for now.

My Texas

My Texas

Howdy! I deeply regret not having the time to update my blog very much the last couple weeks. It’s been a literal mad-house over here, with all the packing boxes, wrapping furniture etc etc etc. *sigh*

My next blog update will be from Derby, Kansas (next to Wichita). The past couple of weeks/months have really given me an even stronger appreciation for the people God has placed in my life here. Last Friday we had a “going away” party. It really shocked me, to see all the people that came, just to wish us “farewell” for a while. It was a lot of fun actually. We played some ultimate frisbee (in 105 degree weather)… (hehehe), then left from there to the house of some very nice friends of ours who were so gracious and hospitable to open their house for this epic get-together. SO we hung out there for a while, just chatting, then we ate some pizza. Soon afterwards, everyone was ushered into the living room for an interesting trivia game in which everyone was answering questions about our family to see who knew us best. hehe, that was quite interesting! ;)   Next, there was an amazing (no other word to describe it) slideshow video that just absolutely flooded me with all the memories of the past 3 years with the Austin Rhetoric Club. It was sad, but it was really refreshing. The song playing during the slideshow was “friends are friends forever” by Michael W. Smith. The most perfectest song every for the occasion.

We ended with everyone gathering together to pray for us. It was a dramatic time of many mixed emotions. The more dominant emotion (at least for me) was probably one of sadness. But there was also a deep appreciation for my friends, and what they have meant to me… each and every one of them. I find comfort in the promises of my God. But facebook, my blog, gmail chat, and webcams help aLOT too. ;)

Anyways, I’ll hopefully be able to post some pics of the new place eventually… but we’ll see. :) Thank you all for reading, and my family and I would truly appreciate your prayers during this time. See y’all later! :)
